Department of Bioinformatics

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Bioinformatics was established in 2004 with financial assistance from UGC, under the Innovative Program scheme. Ours is the first institution to introduce Bioinformatics in this region. Chandigarh being a bioactive area, it is strategically located central focal point meeting the demands of three states. The department was set up with an aim for promotion and growth of Bioinformatics. The Department has been conceived with the ambitious objective of developing professional expertise and skilled manpower in Bioinformatics and related areas. The college is an apex institute in the area of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics and the aim and vision of the department of Bioinformatics is to provide a platform for students to gain an insight into Bioinformatics sciences and to utilize their skills in Agriculture, Biotechnology, Biomedical and Health care, R and D organization, Pharmaceutical and Software Development Companies.

Presently our Department is offering different courses in Bioinformatics at UG as well as PG level. The faculty is highly qualified and actively engaged in research activities. The Department is equipped with one wet lab, two Computer Labs with Internet facility and one Bioinformatics research facility.

The department has an intent to organize extension lectures, to promote the use of latest teaching aids to inculcate scientific temperament and to hold other activities to provide students with an opportunity for interaction and career upliftment.
