Department of Biotechnology

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Biotechnology was established in August, 1994 with the introduction of vocational course of Biotechnology at undergraduate level. Presently the department is running Ph.D. (Biotechnology), M.Sc. (Biotechnology), B.Sc. (Honours) Biotechnology, and B.Sc. with Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. With its creative, interdisciplinary and research oriented approach in various programmes, this Department is providing the students broader and deeper perspectives in academics and research. In 2007, GGDSD College was selected as a “College with Potential for Excellence” and “Biosciences” as STAR Department by UGC, New Delhi. The Department of Science and Technology has recognized the strength of the College’s Science programmes by selecting it under “Star College in Life Science” Scheme of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, New Delhi in 2009. The Department has been sanctioned with “DBT-BUILDER-GGDSD College Interdisciplinary Life Science Programme for Advance Research and Education (Level I)”. The college has been sanctioned with DBT Skill Vigyan Program to provide Student training (Food microbiology) and Technician training program.
The Department has developed excellent training facility and provides short term training and research project programme for external students. A number of students from other institutes have successfully completed summer training/short term research project. The department has a faculty of highly qualified teachers, who are working in thrust areas of biotechnology. To update the knowledge of faculty and students, every year a number of workshops/ seminars/ popular lectures/ scientific quiz & co-curricular activities are organized by the department
