Department of English has the same year of inception as GGDSD College i.e. 1973. The Masters in English and English Honours programs have been a preferred platforms for a variety of career options, besides higher pursuits in the domain of English Literature.

Being one of the core departments of the college, the department of English is privileged to have a dynamic, experienced and dedicated faculty. INFRASTRUCTURE
  • a) Library: The library is a host to hundreds of books related to English language and literature for the development of literary thought in the students and faculty members. It is constantly updated as per the needs and the list of books provided by the department.

  • b) Internet facilities for Staff & Students: The campus is Wi-fi enabled. There are adequate internet facilities and a digital library. ICT enabled teaching is used supplement the lecture method. Sufficient supplementary e-resources and reading material such as books, research journals and magazines of all kinds are provided in the library to enhance teaching and learning.

  • c) Class rooms with ICT Facility: The college provides an excellent infrastructure with sufficient number of classrooms, ultra-modern auditorium, seminar halls, conference room and laboratories.

  • d) Laboratories: 01 The department of English has its own lab for Functional English course. The lab is well equipped with projector screens and audio visual aids.

 

Department Activities / Events

The English Literary Society remains active throughout the year. Guest Lectures,debates, declamations, quiz competitions, creative writing on interdisciplinary themes make up the calendar. The department’s annual inter-college fest remains the most awaited event.
