ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The department of Sanskrit was started in 1973. Along with the teaching of Sanskrit as an elective subject in B.A., the department has also holding free classes to impart the knowledge scriptures like Bhagwat Geeta by teaching Sanskrit. The department also holds declamation and debate contests in Sanskrit to promote and preserve the language and cultural. There is didactic quality in all of Sanskrit literature, but it is most pronounced in fairy tales and fables. Characteristically, different stories are inserted within the framework of a single narration. The character of the tale themselves tell stories until there are many levels to the narrative. The department was setup with an aim for promotion and growth of Sanskrit. The department has been conceived with the ambitious objective of developing of expertise and skilled manpower in Sanskrit and the aim and vision of the department of Sanskrit is to provide a platform for students to gain insightfulness in to corpus of Sanskrit and to utilize their skill in life.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Class rooms, Lecture Theaters, Seminar hall, Auditorium and library provided by college are available to Department of Sanskrit.

  • Dept. of Sanskrit organized a Slogan-writing-competition on 21.2.2023 in collaboration with Hindi Dept. on the occasion of Matribhasha-Divas.
  • Organised a Lecture on the topic:“Place of Yoga in Indian Culture” on 1.6.2022 by Hindi & Sanskrit Dept.
  • Wednesday, June 08, 2022, A workshop was organized on “Information Technology and Official Language Hindi” under the joint aegis of Department of Hindi and Department of Sanskrit at Goswami Ganesh Dutt Sanatan Dharma College, sec.32c, Chandigarh. The program started with Vedic Mantras. The keynote speaker in this workshop was Dr. Lokesh Sharma, Hindi officer, CSIR (Central Scientific Instruments Organization Chandigarh)sec.30 Chandigarh.
  • “Hindi Divas” was celebrated on 14th Sept.2023 under the joint aegis of Central Bank of India, Branch 32 on behalf of Department of Hindi and Sanskrit at Goswami Ganesh Dutt Sanatan Dharma College, Chandigarh. The keynote speaker of this program was Padma Shri awardee, former Vice Chancellor of Sampurnanand Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Varanasi, Prof. Abhiraj Rajendra Mishra.
  • Organised a Lecture on the topic:“Guru-Shishya-Parampara in Bhagwatgeeta” on 28.8.2023 on the occasion of World-Sanskrit-Divas by Hindi & Sanskrit Dept.

  • “Why learn Sanskrit” by Sanskrit Department of Goswami Ganesh Dutt Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32, Chandigarh on 15.12.2020 for the promotion of Sanskrit language.
  • A two-week online yoga camp from 14.6.2021 to 27.6.2021 on the occasion of 7thInternational Yoga Day was organized virtually with the help of Cisco WebEx in Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Sector 32, Chandigarh for all the faculty members to enhance their physical and mental health.
  • On the 550th Prakashotsav of Guru Nanak DevJi, Dept. of Sanskrit of S.D.College, sector 32c, Chandigarh organized A poster making competition on the topic “Swachh Bharat Swasth Bharat”. The main objective of this competition was that just as Guru Nanak DevJi had a clean life, we should also try to keep our India clean and healthy.
  • The Dept of Sanskrit of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma, Cahndigarh is organized a lecture for the students of Sanskrit subject on The topic : IMPORTANCE OF SANSKRIT IN PRESENT ERA.

  • A Poem Recitation organized by Sanskrit & Hindi department jointly under the banner of Reader’s Club on 17.sept.2016 in the Library of GGDSD College, Chandigarh.
  • Celebration of MAATRI BHASHA DIVAS on 21.2.2017. On this occasion a NUKKAR PLAY on mother tongue & Poem recitation has been done by the students of Sanskrit & Hindi department.
  • The Students of Sanskrit got consultation prize in a state level Sanskrit Smoohgaan Competition on 18.3.2017organised by Haryana Sanskrit Academy, Panchkula.
  • Our college team won the first prize in Inter- University Competition of Sanskrit Rashtra Geet Gaan, organized by Sanskrit Academy, Chandigarh on 26th January, 2014 at Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector – 45, Chandigarh.
