The Department initiated B.Sc (General) course in the year 1986. The aim of the department is to impart subject knowledge and to make students a perpetual learners & critical thinkers, which results in their holistic development. The Department has great infrastructure, which includes two functional laboratories, two museum having well displayed models, skeletons, specimens, nests. The Labs are fully equipped to meet all the practical requirements for B.Sc degree classes. The department has fresh water Aquaria, book bank and club corner also. It is in the continuous process of growth and improvement with augmentation of Skeletons, Charts, Models from time to time.
The Department has highly qualified, experienced and dedicated faculty. All the faculty members are Ph.D with more than 7 years experience in teaching. The Department places emphasis on laboratory component in the teaching curriculum. , the Department regularly organizes Educational Trips Guest Lectures etc. The Department started “Aristotle Club” in 2019, which is a subject based club. It’s objective is to provide a platform to the students to enrich their knowledge about the subject. Various competitions which are being organized by the club, give them a chance to explore their potential, make them think beyond books. Counseling and Mentoring Session at regular interval sensitize the students about various career opportunities in the subject.
After Graduation in Zoology, various career opportunities are in Teaching, Forensics, Indian Forest Services, Fisheries, Poultry, Research, Project assistant, Scientist, Indian Administrative Services, one can work in wildlife rehabilitation centers, Hatcheries, Conservation agencies, Scientific civil services, environment or ecosystem management sector, Besides this, one can proceed career in animal and wildlife educators, wildlife rehabilitators and conservationists.
