The English Literary Club at GGDSD College is dedicated to fostering a passion for literature, creative expression, and critical thinking. Through various events, workshops, and competitions, the club provides a platform for students to enhance their literary skills and cultivate an appreciation for the English language.

Awards and Achievements

The English Literary Club has received widespread recognition for its invaluable role in enhancing literary culture at GGDSD College. Students have demonstrated excellence by consistently securing positions, accolades, and cash prizes in esteemed competitions. Notable achievements include success at the Panjab University Youth Festival, the National Model United Nations Conference (organized by the Department of Laws, Panjab University), EUNOIA 2024 (hosted by the Department of English and Cultural Studies, Panjab University), and the La Belle Epoque Inter-College Literary Fest (organized by Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, Chandigarh), among others. Members of the club have also gone on to become published writers and researchers.

Collaborations

  • SIKHlens Collaboration: Hosted a cultural symposium exploring themes in films, philosophy, and poetry.
  • SD Aadarsh Foundation: Collaboration for mentoring students at Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 45.
  • Language Institutes: CANAM, Polar Linguist, and @hangeulfever for conducting the Global Languages Proficiency Workshops on French, Mandarin, and Korean languages.

  • Padhna Likhna Abhiyan (Nov-Dec 2023) – For this outreach activity, the English Literary Club, in collaboration with the SD Aadarsh Foundation, embarked on an inspiring mission to empower and educate the bright young minds at Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 45, under the Pardhna Likhna Abhiyan in November 2023. The Pardhna Likhna Abhiyan aims to foster a brighter future through quality education and unwavering support. Student members of the English Literary Club taught English language and literature at the secondary school with diligence and a nurturing attitude.

2024

  • Global Language(s) Proficiency Workshop Series I—French (Jan 18-19, 2024) : The English Literary Club of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College, Chandigarh, in collaboration with PML SD Business School and CANAM, organized this workshop. Ms. Sabia Nagpal was the resource person, blending linguistic expertise, test-taking strategies, and cultural immersion. Over 150 students participated, exploring career prospects and language proficiency.
  • Global Language(s) Proficiency Workshop Series II—Korean (Feb 6, 2024) : Hosted by the English Literary Club, GGDSD College, in collaboration with PML SD Business School, this workshop introduced students to the richness of the Korean language, culture, and career opportunities. The resource person was Ms. Sanjana Dua (@hangeulfever), an expert Korean language tutor.
  • Global Language(s) Proficiency Workshop Series III—Mandarin (Feb 9, 2024) : Organized by the English Literary Club, GGDSD College, and PML SD Business School in collaboration with Polar Linguist. The expert Mr. Saurav Thakral guided over 150 students, offering insights into Mandarin’s cultural richness and career prospects.

  • ELC Matinée: The Guide (Feb 2, 2024) : A screening of the film adaptation of RK Narayan’s “The Guide,” aimed at bringing literature to life. Students engaged in discussions, exploring the novel’s themes and cinematic representation.
  • ELC Matinée: Wuthering Heights (Feb 10, 2024) : The English Literary Club hosted a screening of the 1939 classic “Wuthering Heights,” directed by William Wyler. Attendees engaged in discussions on film adaptation techniques, characterizations, and literary interpretations.
  • Kaleidoscope 2.0 (Sept 20, 2024) : The English Literary Club hosted this literary celebration, featuring an Orientation Session, Investiture Ceremony, launch of the podcast “Whimsy,” unveiling of the club’s official newsletter, and competitions like Suit-Up and Open Mic.
  • Memoirs of Childhood (Nov 14, 2024) : A Short Story and Poetry Competition organized by the English Literary Club.
