About the Club

Majma-i-Itihaaskar, gathering of Historian, a club under History Department was established in the month of October, 2021. It was inaugurated by Professor Devander Thakur, SVC & Former Chairperson, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

Vision of the Club

  • Our goal is to provide a supportive environment where students can develop their research skills, explore new perspective of historical findings.
  • To motivate and inspired the young minds to think beyond the classroom knowledge.
  • Inculcate and encouraged the students to drive deep in the history of India/World.

Mission of the Club

  • Aim to cultivate a community of young researchers, passionate about the past and its relevance to the present and future.
  • To enhance transferability skills and intellectual curiosity
  • To broaden the personality and prospective of the young historians.

Joining Process

Every year, new members are enrolled through open membership especially for those students who have history as major subject. Amongst the member students, for smooth functioning of the club, executive body of the student are selected through interview. Their tenure is for one year.

Club activities of last 3 years

  • It was inaugurated on November 15th, 2021. The History Club, Majma-i-Itahaaskar, organised a talk by Prof. Devinder Singh, S.V.C. and Chairperson, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Prof. Anil Kumar, Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
  • An educational trip to Rakhigarhi, an important Harappan site, was organised on November 18th, 2021 under the guidance of Dr. Moirangthem Pramod, HOD of History.
  • The 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was celebrated with a talk by eminent author and journalist Mr. Anuj Dhar on April 5th, 2022. It catered to the much discussed and debated topic, ‘Solving the Mystery Behind the Disappearance of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’.
  • The new academic session began with an Oral History Competition on the theme ‘Unsung Heroes of India’, which was held on October 7th, 2022.
  • The classroom learning was enhanced visually with a one-day educational trip to The National Museum, New Delhi on October 8th, 2022.
  • The club brings Bioscope – the perfect blend of cinema, history and entertainment. The movie, Tashkent Files, gives an insight towards the conspiracies around the demise of former Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, on 24th March, 2023.
  • The induction event, Itihaas se Rubaru, was held on 18th September, 2023.
  • One day historical trip was organised on 27th October, 2023, to the enchanting city of Amritsar.
  • Prof. Surinder Singh, deliver a captivating lecture on, Historical Features of Sufism in Medieval India, 0n 3rd November, 2023.
  • The history club held a series of event under the Electwords slogan writing contest on the theme ELECTION, photography competition and essay competition of the theme, ‘What does Republic Day mean to you’ on 24 – 26th January, 2024.
  • The history club organised the annual event BIOSCOPE, movie screening of ‘The Rocketery-Nambi Effect’ on 22nd February 2024
