Digital Safety Club

About the Department

As the world reaches new heights of technology and Internet seeing a meteoric rise in coverage, Digital safety has become an indispensable part of every industry all over the world. The Internet, for all its glory and opportunities, does unfortunately feature threats and challenges. The number of Internet users continues to grow across the globe. Government and private organizations are facing threats and are concerned about their safety. We have a duty to protect the people from all of these harms and one should not underestimate its seriousness. The only way to mitigate these risks is by being aware of and practicing digital safety.

Anyone can be exposed to Internet Frauds, Malwares, Cyber Bullying, Cyber Grooming, Online Abuse, Harassment, Exposure to Violent Content etc. By learning about Digital Safety, we can understand how these different types of cyber attacks can impact us, and what measures can we take to defend ourselves against it.

Digital safety is the act of maximizing a user’s awareness of personal safety and security risks to private information and property associated with using the Internet and the self-protection from computer crime. It is not a rigid field in its own right, but rather a collection of steps and measures meant to promote safe usage of digital tools and technology available freely to the people.

Our country has also recognized its importance and for it, various steps have been taken by the Government of India. National Cyber Security Mission, Cyber Dost, National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal etc. Different ministries are collectively working on digital hygiene, social media hygiene, privacy awareness, digital payment security, safer Internet practices and women and kids online safety etc.

The Digital Safety Club of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College has been contrived for contributing to the above cause. The club aims to mitigate the risks, spread awareness and prevent cyber crimes. We all are aware of the incredible benefits of information technology. However, cyber crimes are increasing manifold, raising various cyber security concerns. People of all age groups are being harmed by various types of cyber crimes. The Chandigarh Police identified the need of incepting digital awareness among the citizens. To start with, engaging the youth is a much appreciated step. For it, ‘Cyber Swachhta Mission’ has been initiated by the Chandigarh Police. We at CSR India firmly believe that youth are the driving force of our country and that they can positively impact many lives. To spread our message of safer, inclusive and secure internet for everyone, a digital safety club in collaboration with the GGDSD College was formed under CSR’s Flagship Student Ambassador Program with the intention of promoting youth’s voice in formulating a sustainable solution to the issue.
