About the Department

Established in 2006, the Department of Fashion Designing is committed to its mission of producing skilled professionals to meet the growing demands of the fashion, apparel, and textile industries at both regional and national levels. The department offers a comprehensive range of programs designed to cater to diverse academic and professional aspirations.

The department is supported by a team of highly trained and experienced faculty members who impart a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical expertise. Through task-based learning and hands-on training, students are guided to refine their skills, creativity, and industry readiness.

By fostering an environment of innovation and professional growth, the department of Fashion Designing plays a vital role in shaping the next generation of fashion professionals, contributing significantly to the advancement of the fashion and textile sectors.

B.Voc. (Fashion Technology and Apparel Design) was started in 2015 to equip students with specific requirements of the Apparel and Furnishing industry under Deen Dayal Upadhyay KAUSHAL Kendra. These programs are thoughtfully structured with multiple exit points to provide flexibility and adaptability, ensuring they meet the varied needs of students. As per University Grants Commission, New Delhi letter D.O.No. F. 2-7/2014 (CC/NVEQF) Misc. dated 4th August 2016:

  • Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc), a Bachelor level degree specified by UGC under section 22(3) of UGC Act, 1956 and notified in official Gazette of India dated 19th January, 2013 be recognized at par with other Bachelor level degrees for competitive exams conducted by Union/State Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission or other such bodies where the eligibility criteria is “Bachelor Degree in any discipline”.
  • Students with B.Voc degree should be considered for trans disciplinary vertical mobility into such courses where entry qualification is a Bachelor degree without specific requirement in a particular discipline.

It prepares them to use CAD for pattern development and pursue freelance design or boutique ownership. Graduates can work as assistant designers, sampling coordinators, or production managers in export houses or fashion companies.
2 B.A. with Fashion Designing (FYUP) Minor (DSC) 4 Years 10+2 in any discipline of the University/Board/ Council or examination of any other recognized university with not less than 45% marks in the aggregate. The course equips students with skills in design, pattern making, garment construction, textile science, fashion illustration, trend analysis, and marketing, preparing them for careers in fashion industry roles.
3 B.A. (FYUP) Inter Disciplinary (IDC) 1.5 years The course equips students with skills in design, pattern making, garment construction, fashion illustration, trend analysis, and marketing, preparing them for careers in fashion industry roles.
4 B.A./ B.Com/ B.Com(Tax Planning and Management)/ B.Sc/ BCA (FYUP) Skill Enhancement (SEC) 1.5 years Students will gain an in-depth understanding of color theory and the color chart, explore various fabric painting techniques, and acquire the skills to decorate fabrics with unique, painted designs, enhancing their creativity and craftsmanship in surface enrichment.
5 B.Voc (FTAD)/ B.Voc( FPP)/ B.Voc (HN)/ B.Voc(LM)/ B.Voc (ME)/ B.Voc(MLT) Skill Enhancement (SEC) 1.5 years The course equips students with knowledge of fashion terminologies, design aesthetics, and garment construction. It fosters awareness of current trends, traditional Indian techniques like embroidery and printing, and develops skills in selecting dresses and accessories for various occasions, figure types, and seasons. Students also learn sketching, tie-dye, and computer-aided design.

The course covers design fundamentals, quality control, labeling, packaging, and textile laws. It introduces marketing, product planning, and pricing. Students gain knowledge of fibers, yarns, fabrics, and handling various fabric during construction. Practical skills in sketching, rendering, pattern-making, and understanding special-purpose machines in the apparel industry are also developed.
2 B.A. with Fashion Designing 3 Years 10+2 in any discipline of the University/Board/ Council or examination of any other recognized university with not less than 45% marks in the aggregate. The course equips students with skills in design, pattern making, garment construction, textile science, fashion illustration, trend analysis, and marketing, preparing them for careers in fashion industry roles.
3 M.Voc (Fashion Technology and Apparel Design) **2 Years 25 “The candidate graduated in a Bachelors programme with at least 45% (Forty Five) marks in aggregate from Panjab University, Chandigarh, or an examination from any other University recognised as equivalent thereto in the following:

  • B.Voc. Fashion & Textile or related
  • B.Sc. Fashion
  • Bachelor of Design, which has Fashion as the major thrust area
  • B.A. Fashion Design which has ONE year Plus of Industrial Experience/Training/Graduate Diploma in Fashion Designing (One-year course)”
The course provides in-depth understanding of textile, fiber, yarn, and fabric performance. They will get practical training of male and female garment construction methods. It makes students proficient in Indian traditional embroideries, designing motifs and surface development techniques. Students gain insights into sustainable design, garment principles, typography, and green assessment through practical projects, addressing modern production and consumption challenges.
