About the Department

Founded in 1990, The Postgraduate Department of Computer Science and Applications at GGDSD College, Chandigarh, recognised by AICTE stands as a beacon of excellence in advanced IT education in the region.

With state-of-the-art infrastructure, air-conditioned labs and classrooms, and access to both physical and online study materials, the department ensures a dynamic and interactive learning environment. It emphasizes skill development through practical exposure, strengthened by collaborations with reputed industries and research institutes.

The department offers Postgraduate, Graduate, and Diploma programs in a technically sound and professional framework designed to foster knowledge and excellence. A dedicated team of highly qualified faculty members employs innovative teaching methods such as experiential learning, flipped classrooms, and cutting-edge pedagogy to inspire “out of the box” thinking and a growth-oriented mindset.

Over the years, the department has metamorphosed, recognising the growing needs of young minds who wish to meet the demands of the ever-evolving technology landscape with latest inclusion of AI and Data Science in curriculums of both UG and PG courses.

The department also extends its support to sister colleges across Punjab by providing hardware equipment, establishing and maintaining network infrastructure, and ensuring its upkeep.

Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications 1 year (Semester System) 30*2 Bachelor’s degree of Panjab University under 10+2+3 examination system with at least 50% marks in any discipline.

BCA (HONOURS) / BCA (HONOURS WITH RESEARCH) B.Voc. (Hardware and Networking) (Under Kaushal Kendra Scheme)* B.Sc. /B.Sc. (Honours) (Data Analytics)* 4 Years(Semester System) 30 +2 examination in any discipline with at least 50% marks and passed Mathematics as one of the subject at Matriculation level;

OR

Any other examination recognized by the Syndicate as equivalent to (i) above.

5% weightage will be given for subject of Mathematics/ Statistics or equivalent to the candidate who studied the subject at 10+2 level at the time of admission in B.Sc. /B.Sc. (Hons.) (Data Analytics) 1stsemester.

  • Classrooms and Laboratories are installed with interactive projectors and white marker boards with internet facility.
  • The computer to student ratio is 1:1
  • Software development environments are MS-DOS, LINUX, MS Windows, ORACLE etc.
SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM
  • The Campus is monitored by 121 IP-based High Resolution CCTV cameras. The control and management of Surveillance System is with IT department.
  • Helpful in enforcement of discipline.
CENTRALIZED AIR CONDITION SYSTEM
  • Entire department has fully centralized air-conditioned system
INTERNET FACILITY
  • Gigabit network with FIBRE OPTICS BACKBONE cable allowing data rates in Gbps. It links all buildings of the Campus to the Department.
  • Free Wi-Fi access for the whole campus
  • High end core Switching and Routing capabilities through Cisco manageable Switches behind firewalls
