About the Department

The Department of Commerce and Management (DCM) was set up in the year 1976 with a vision to impart quality and value based education in the field of Commerce and Management. Over the years, this department has carved an enviable niche in the field of Commerce and management education in northern India. It got P.G. status with the introduction of Master of Commerce (M.Com) in 1999 and was able to impart Vocational skill set courses in the year 2014-15 through DDU Kaushal Kendra . Various allied courses like NSE Certified Capital Market Course (2013), NSE Smart Simulation Trading Lab (2021) and Tally Solution Essentials Level 2 & 3 (2022) were introduced to cater to the arising needs of professional courses.

Various clubs running within the department form a part of an all-round education. These include Commerce and management club, Ashra club, Tedx and Rotract club to familiarise students with issues such as environmental consciousness, social commitment, gender sensitization, cultural and plural tolerance, human values, among others.

The department is proud to be the Alma Mater of a large number of Chartered Accountants and Company Secretaries in the region and has been providing faculty, infrastructure and administrative help to local chapters of ICSI and ICAI.

The department has been declared as “Star Department” By UGC and has been conferred the status of PhD Research Center in the year 2018. It is largest Commerce Department in Panjab University, Chandigarh having 1890 students, 46 core faculty members and 19 allied faculty members. The faculty of the department of Commerce has been honoured with 12 awards and honours of state and national level from the year 2016-2017 to 2021-2022.

It boasts of being the first choice among commerce aspirants with highest cut-off in the region.

In All India Ranking given by India Today, the college stood at 12th position for its B.Com course and at 6th position for its B.B.A course (2022). In Outlook ICare rankings (2022) the college attained First rank in its B.com and B.B.A courses.
