Principal’s Message

Welcome to GGDSD College, Chandigarh – the most renowned and reputed college, which has been accredited with ‘A+’ grade by NAAC and accorded the status of ‘A College with Potential for Excellence’ by UGC. We are the first ever college of Panjab University to be selected under ‘FIST Program 2010’ of Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. The college has also been selected under ‘Star College Scheme’ of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India, New Delhi. These accolades and awards speak volumes about our academic excellence and quality education. These achievements and attainments are just milestones and not the destination because sky is not the limit, but the beginning for us as we believe; there is no best that cannot be bettered.

With immaculate academic ambience, state-of-the-art infrastructure, futuristic facilities and pronounced emphasis on quality education and overall development of the personality, the college has emerged as the top performing and leading college which offers a variety of duly approved courses of Panjab University across all vocational, professional, commercial and technical streams under the faculties of Commerce, Science, Information Technology and Humanities. With the aim of providing job-oriented education, we introduced vocational courses like Advertising, Sales Promotion and Sales Management, Biotechnology and Computer Applications in 1994-95. Subsequently, we added Functional English, Industrial Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Information Technology and Fashion Designing, etc. to the list. The college has transcended conventional learning through transdisciplinary education by introducing various innovative and professional courses in emerging and interdisciplinary areas. The college offers four innovative courses viz. M.Sc. Bioinformatics, M.Sc. Applied Chemistry (Pharmaceutical), Masters in Entrepreneurship and Family Business (MEFB) and P.G. Diploma in Computer Graphics and Animation.

Staying abreast of changing dynamics in socio- economic set up, the college is running market oriented professional courses like M.Com, M.Sc. (IT), B.B.A., B.C.A., B.Sc. (Hons) in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. In the ensuing academic session, we intend to establish research centers for Economics Physics and Commerce with well-equipped research oriented facilities. Apart from the aforementioned courses, there are thirteen ‘Add- on’ courses, which students can opt for, to add a winning edge to their profiles. For going global in a local world, we have entered into an MoU with University of Fraser Valley (UFV), Canada.

At S.D. College, students are exposed to globally benchmarked set of teaching pedagogies which impart holistic education through brainstorming sessions, diagnostic tests, bridge courses, seminars, guest lectures, power point presentations, case studies, workshops and educational excursions. We are equipped with INFLIBNET connection, which provides online access to national and international journals. Our ‘Placement Cell’ acts as an effective liaison between students and prospective employers by providing campus placements. The excellence of our Industry-Institute-Interface speaks for itself with our alumni making waves across the corporate world. Our placement cell ensures employment of the students through campus placements.
