Department of Biotechnology
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Biotechnology was established in August, 1994 with the introduction of vocational course of Biotechnology at undergraduate level.Presently the department is running Ph.D. (Biotechnology), M.Sc. (Biotechnology), B.Sc. (Honours) Biotechnology, and B.Sc. with Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology. With its creative, interdisciplinary and research oriented approach in various programmes, this Department is
providing the students broader and deeper perspectives in academics and research. In 2007, GGDSD College was selected as a “College with Potential for Excellence” and “Biosciences” as STAR Department by UGC, New Delhi. The Department of Science and Technology has recognized the strength of the College’s Science programmes by selecting it under “Star College in Life Science” Scheme of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India,
New Delhi in 2009. The Department of Science & Technology, New Delhi has sanctioned college with “FIST Status” for strengthening of the Infrastructure and Research Programme Sciences.
The Department has developed excellent training facility and provides short term training and research project programme for external students. A number of students from other institutes have successfully completed summer training/short term research project. Under the training programmes organized for students from time to time, one candidate from USA under ‘The Doris Duke Conservation Fellows’ internship completed his two month project at the Research Facility in Department. The department has a faculty of highly qualified teachers, who are working in thrust areas of biotechnology. To update the knowledge of faculty and students, every year a number of workshops/ seminars/ popular lectures/ scientific quiz & co-curricular activities are organized by the department.
