Goswami Ganesh Dutta S.D. College, Chandigarh has been bestowed with the status of Deen Dayal Upadhyay KAUSHAL Kendra by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Under the scheme, the college will receive a total grant of Rs. 4.65 crores over a period of two years (2015-16 and 2016-17). Only 48 institutions in India have been granted this status by the University Grants Commission. S.D. College, Chandigarh is the only institution in Chandigarh which has been approved as Deen Dayal Upadhyay KAUSHAL Kendra by the UGC.

The main objective of KAUSHAL Kendra is to create skilled manpower for industry requirements at various levels and to provide for vertical mobility from short term certificate courses to full-fledged post graduate degree programme, and further research in specialized areas. Under Deen Dayal Upadhyay KAUSHAL Kendra, the college offers five B.Voc degree programmes and one Diploma in Medical Lab Technology. The B.Voc degree programmes have the provision of multiple entry and exit at various levels.

The fundamental goal of Deen Dayal Upadhyay KAUSHAL Kendra is to counter the demand – supply mismatch in the economy as there is requirement of a highly skilled workforce along with more managers and entrepreneurs. The courses under KAUSHAL Kendra are Skilled Based Courses which will take vocational education to higher levels and will focus on skill development for employment as well as develop entrepreneurship traits among the youth.
