Department of Political Science organized a webinar on “The Role of Supreme Court in Expansion and Protection of Fundamental Rights of Citizens” will be held on 21st December, 2020 at 11.30 AM On the 19th of December, a Webinar was organised on “Role of The Supreme Court in the expansion and protection of Fundamental Rights of citizens” by the Department of Political Science, GGDSD College, sector 32, Chandigarh. The Principal, Dr. Balraj Thapar welcomed the students, faculty members and the Resource Person of the event, Prof. Vandana Arora from the Dept. Of Law, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof. Arora presented the topic in a very nuanced manner looking at several landmark cases including the Kesavananda Bharti vs. State of Kerala case; DK Basu vs. State of West Bengal case to name a few. This apart, the Professor also elaborated on the role of the Supreme Court with respect to Article 21 and Article 32 of the Constitution and in so doing, several aspects including the criminal justice system, education, sexual harassment and health were discussed. Further, the speaker also engaged with several questions that were posed by the faculty and the students and in so doing, Prof. Vandana discussed themes of Judicial Activism, Judicial Review Freedom of the Press to name a few. The webinar was concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Seema Kumari, Head of the Department of Political Science, GGDSD, Chandigarh. Further, the event saw a resounding participation of faculty members, students and researchers of various departments.
