CAPACITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES OF INSTITUTIONAL LEADERS
  • Workshop on “Automation System in Education Sector” for teaching and non teaching staff

A workshop and training programme on “Automation System in Education Sector” was conducted in two phases at GGDSD College, Chandigarh from 18th to 20th February, 2016 and from 08th to 9th March, 2016. The workshop and training programme that was sponsored by Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan as an initiative to enhance the capabilities and skills of the teaching and non-teaching staff members of the college, focused on Teaching Methodology through Learning Exchange system, use of e-resource contents such as EBSCO host online Research Databases, Implementation of Campus Management Solution, e-Governance through Office Management system, Online Admissions and Monitoring of Students Progression. In the first phase, about 150 teachers were trained under the programme. Faculty members from the Departments of Economics, Information Technology, Library and Commerce participated in the workshop and training programme. The members of the faculty from various departments learned to use the various modules and to ingrain them in their day to day working and teaching at the college. In the second phase, around 160 staff members from the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, Hindi, Fashion Designing, History, Journalism and Mass Communication, Music, Physical Education, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Sanskrit, Sociology, Statistics and non-teaching staff from Accounts, Administrative and other sections were imparted training at the workshops and training programmes. The participants were awarded certificates on the successful completion of the Workshop and Training Programme.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES
  •  Remedial coaching for undergraduate classes
    The college conducted remedial coaching classes from February 10, 2016 to March 10, 2016 under RUSA scheme. The classes were held for B.Com, B.Sc and B.C.A courses. The subjects taught under the remedial coaching for various classes were:
    • Direct tax laws (B.Com)
    • Organic chemistry (B.Sc)
    • C. Programming (B.C.A)
    • Corporate accounting (B.Com)
    • Physics (B.Sc)
  • Coaching for NET
    The college also conducted coaching for CBSE-NET, in the subject Commerce, for Post Graduation (M.Com) students of GGDSD College, Chandigarh as well as other colleges in the region. These classes were held from February 10, 2016 to March 10, 2016. The classes were held for various units from Paper II and III.
  • Workshop On Script Writing And Cinematography
    The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication organized a workshop and training programme on “Scripting and Cinematography”. As many as 60 students participated in the workshop. Mr. Simran Kaler, Asst. Prof. at Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar was the resource person on this occasion.
    Principal Dr. Bhushan K. Sharma and Mr. Gagandeep Sharma, RUSA Coordinator inaugurated the workshop.
    The workshop was held in two sessions. In the first Session, Mr. Kaler explained the formats and techniques to be used for Script writing. The students were divided into 12 groups and were given exercises to write their own scripts. In the Second session, Mr. Kler explained the different features and working of DSLR Camera. He also explained the various camera movements, shots, angles and perspectives. Students were taken around the campus to shoot a short film according to their written script. At the end, they were told how to arrange the clippings in a short film on the video-editing software Adobe Premier.
    Overall, the workshop proved to be very useful for the students as the learned about editing and post production techniques of film making process.
  • Seminar and Special Lectures
    The Department of Chemistry, organized a ‘Popular Lectures cum two-day Workshop’ on Instrumentation Techniques in Chemistry (HPLC, GC, IR, UV-VISIBLE SPECTROHOTOMETER) on March 21st and 22nd, 2016. The popular lectures cum workshop projected the importance and growing need for sensitizing the students of today about Chemistry. Further, it highlighted the importance along with Industrial Applications of Analytical Methods and some of the Instrumentation Techniques for Analysis of Pharmaceuticals and for the characterization in Chemical and Biological sciences.
    A number of eminent speakers were invited to enlighten the students. Dr. Tejvir Singh (Professor, Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh) spoke on, Science in India. Dr. S.S. Bari (Professor, Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh) delivered a lecture on, Electromagnetic Spectrum & Origin of Spectroscopy. Dr. K.K. Bhasin (Emeritus Scientist, Department of Chemistry, Panjab University, Chandigarh) gave an address on Fascinating aspects about Chemistry had graced the occasion.
    In their presentations, the distinguished speakers elaborated on the new technologies which have arisen from basic sciences. The workshop proved to be a valuable learning experience to the students.
